The round was led by the British Business Bank, which invested €4 million, with participation from Centrica Energy, Ceres Power Holdings plc, and Temasek Trust’s Catalytic Capital for Climate and Health. The company is developing manganese flow batteries for long-duration energy storage, designed to capture renewable electricity and release it when generation from wind and solar falls.
Certain Energy plans to use the €11.6 million to commercialise its technology, including building a grid-connected MWh-class system in India, expanding UK research facilities, and establishing a supply chain for further projects. The company says its system offers a 20-year operating life, round-trip efficiency above 75%, and marginal storage costs roughly one-tenth those of vanadium flow batteries.
